The Liahona Compass Award

The Liahona Compass Award was introduced by the Utah National Parks Council on June 13, 2015 and will continue to be offered at camps for Summer 2017.

"Scouts have the opportunity to earn the Liahona Compass Award at summer Scout camp this year and in 2016. Recalling the “round ball of curious workmanship” given to Lehi and his family by God to direct them in the wilderness, the Liahona Compass Award directs Scouts to ponder on the decisions they make today that will affect their future.

“It has been said by one, years ago, that history turns on small hinges, and so do people’s lives. Our lives will depend upon the decision which we make — for decisions determine destiny.

– President Thomas S. Monson

Every camping season the Utah National Parks Council creates a special award focused on a Scout’s Duty to God. The compass design is a full sphere and spins on an axis engraved with President Monson’s words, “Decisions Determine Destiny.”

The award will be available for purchase at every camp trading post after the young man has earned the award to their leader’s satisfaction. Scout Leaders should feel free to change the requirements to suite the desired outcomes set by the group or church organization leadership.
